Oil India Limited’s world class R&D Centre, established in 1985, has state-of-the-art facilities and has delivered pioneering results in source rock evaluation, formation water clarification & re-injection, water-oil ratio control, rheological studies of waxy crude, and coal oil co-processing’s.


With a view to provide techno-economically feasible solution of the problems encountered by OIL in its daily operations in the field of exploration, drilling, production, transportation and pollution control, the R&D Centre has been recognised by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India recently.


Over the past two decades, OIL R&D Centre has developed application of latest techniques of Geochemistry for exploration and reservoir studies, process for produced formation water clarification to 10 ppm level, gelled fluid formulations to reduce wax deposition problems, and the well performance optimization measures have led to improved production from many wells.

OIL has also bagged the distinction of having the First Pilot plant in India for conversion of coal to oil.

JAIVALAYA
Oil India establishes state-of-the-art “JAIVALAYA” – Petroleum Biotechnology Centre at its Field Head Quarters in Duliajan, ASSAM

Oil India establishes a state-of-the-art research facility for application of Biotechnology in the E&P thrust areas christened as “Jaivalaya”. The facility was formally inaugurated and inducted into the service of the Company on 26th September, 2014 by Chairman and Managing Director Shri.S.K. Srivastava in the R&D Department at its Field Head Quarters in Duliajan. The inaugural function was attended by Shri S. C. Gupta Independent Director, Shri S. Rath D (O), Shri N. K. Bharali D (HR&BD), Mrs. R. S. Borah D (F), Shri S. Mahapatra D (E&D) in presence of Shri V. Sharma, RCE and All GGMs and GMs.
Congratulating, the R&D Department and the relentless efforts of project team that was instrumental in setting up of the research facility, Chairman and Managing Director Shri.S.K. Srivastava referred to the state-of-the-art Petroleum Biotechnology Centre as the “Temple of modern Oil India Limited” which will prove to be an important building block for ensuring India’s future energy security. He also noted that with the establishment of the research facility, Oil India Limited has taken a significant stride ahead in the E&P business.
